Description: Color: brilliant light straw yellow. Nose: The aroma of this Chardonnay releases exotic fruity impressions with nuances of banana, quince, passion fruit, mango and sugar melon plus a hint of lemon balm.
Grape variety: Chardonnay - South Tyrol DOC
Production area: Terlano is a wine-growing village located halfway between Alto Adige's main towns of Merano and Bolzano where the Adige flows through a wide valley in a south-easterly direction. The village and vineyards nestle against the red porphyry rock of Monte Tschöggl on the orographically left side of the valley. Sandy-stony, well-drained soils.
Vinification: Manual harvest and selection of the grapes; gentle whole cluster pressing and clarification of the must by natural sedimentation; slow fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, aging on the lees in steel tanks for 5 - 7 months.
Taste: A touch of pear gives the Chardonnay a mouthfeel that is very soft and harmonious combined with sweetish exotic fruit components. Its slightly mineral note makes this wine very smooth and adds an intriguing contrast.
Matching: Ideal with a plateau de fruits de mer with raw prawns and langoustines; vegetable risotto and cream of root vegetable soups (potato, cream of celeriac); dishes with a mildly tangy cheese (e.g. a soft Robiola) including cheese dumplings and pasta dishes with cheese; also sea bass in salt or veal paillard.
Serving temperature: 10 - 12°C.
Ageing potential: more than 3 years.
Bottle to: 750 ml - 75 cl - 0,75 lt.
Allergens: Wine can contain sulphites.
Producer: Terlano Winery Terlano’s tradition as a wine terroir dates back over 2000 years. That vines thrive so well in the lee of Monzoccolo is due to the mild, almost Mediterranean climate with hot sunny days and cool nights during the ripening time. The striking red, easily warmed porphyry soil of Terlano also contributes to the high quality of the grapes. In the heart of this South Tyrolean wine region the Terlano winery was established in 1893. Today the co-operative has over 200 members and a total area of 240 hectares. 70% of the vineyard acreage is planted with white grapes. In modern cellars the fruits of this careful, natural cultivation are turned into wine with that perfect touch and the necessary controls.Because of the mineral content of the wines the region of Terlano is also frequently likened to French vine growing areas. The Terlano wine characteristics, the precise fruit, and the fine yet strong aroma lead experts to compare the wine with mature vintage Champagnes.
