Description: Color: deep ruby to garnet red with a delicate shimmer of violet. Nose: The aroma reveals earthy, minerally notes masterfully underpinned with fruit components, with morello cherry and plum jam dominating. Taste: These peaty, spicy and yet velvety fruit notes also intrigue the palate, where this Lagrein Riserva presents itself with multilayered opulence and great complexity.
Grape variety: Lagrein - Gries South Tyrol DOC Riserva
Production area: The alluvial soils in the Bolzano suburb of Gries are ideal for the indigenous red Lagrein wine, which is mentioned in a historical document dated 1379.
Vinification: Manual harvest and selection of the grapes; destemming followed by slow must fermentation at a controlled temperature and gentle agitation of the must in stainless steel tanks; malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months partly in big wooden barrels (70%) and partly in barriques using one third new barrels (30%); blending three months before bottling.
Food pairing: Combines well with roast chamois with root vegetables and with veal cheeks braised in Lagrein and served with root vegetables.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C.
Ageing potential: more than 8 years.
Bottle to: 750 ml - 75 cl - 0,75 lt.
Allergens: Wine can contain sulphites.
Producer: Terlano Winery Terlano’s tradition as a wine terroir dates back over 2000 years. That vines thrive so well in the lee of Monzoccolo is due to the mild, almost Mediterranean climate with hot sunny days and cool nights during the ripening time. The striking red, easily warmed porphyry soil of Terlano also contributes to the high quality of the grapes. In the heart of this South Tyrolean wine region the Terlano winery was established in 1893. Today the co-operative has over 200 members and a total area of 240 hectares. 70% of the vineyard acreage is planted with white grapes. In modern cellars the fruits of this careful, natural cultivation are turned into wine with that perfect touch and the necessary controls.Because of the mineral content of the wines the region of Terlano is also frequently likened to French vine growing areas. The Terlano wine characteristics, the precise fruit, and the fine yet strong aroma lead experts to compare the wine with mature vintage Champagnes.
