Description

Description: 
Dark, deep purple colour. Light nuances of dark berry fruit are perceived on the nose together with delicate spicy notes reminiscent of white pepper. Subtle perception of sweet tobacco and leather together with refreshing notes of eucalyptus. 

A very velvety and smooth tannin caresses the palate, slight toasted aromas with light pepper notes accompany the drinking experience. A great red wine, a symbol of elegance and juiciness, soft and extraordinarily long-lasting. 

Grape variety: 
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Nebbiolo. 

Production area: 
Cornaiano, 420m above sea level, limestone soil, deep sandy clay. 

Vinification: 
12 hours maceration followed by controlled fermentation on the marc for approx. 30 days in stainless steel barrels. 

Malolactic fermentation with ageing in French oak Barrique barrels (50% first passage, 50% second passage) for 15 months, followed by a further 15 months of bottle ageing. 

Food pairing: 
The wine pairs perfectly with red meats, game dishes and mature mountain cheeses. 

Serving temperature: 
16 - 18°C. 

Ageing potential: 
more than 10 years.

The brothers Markus and Thomas Puff are responsible for the wine production at the impressively 700 year-old Pitznerhof in Cardano at the entrance to the Valle Isarco. Their farmhouse lies at an elevation of precisely 350 meters, but the three hectares of grape growing areas are on steep slopes with deep, sandy weathered porphyry soils. “We attempt to integrate the local conditions and the microclimate into the production process in the best possible way". And in the winery, there is also the underlying principle of working with the grapes gently. Thus the overall picture comes together of production that is close to nature along the entire chain. “We try to fulfill our responsibility by stressing nature as little as possible".
