Blauburgunder Selection Alexander Gottardi 2016 - 14% vol. Gottardi Winery

In 2015, 2016 and 2017, Alexander Gottardi vinified a very special wine: a selection that is even superior in quality to our Pinot Noir Riserva. The idea was to bring these three selections from three outstanding Pinot Noir vintages to the market when they were perfectly ripe for drinking - not least to show what our South Tyrolean Pinot Noir has to offer. These wines bear his signature as a tribute and a big thank you to Alexander Gottardi. He was a passionate winemaker with heart and soul, who found his calling in Pinot Noir and was greatly appreciated.
Complex on the nose with a noble, delicate fruit and appealing wood nuances. This Pinot Noir is characterized by its balanced acid structure, harmoniously integrated tannins and aromas of rose hips, red cherries, dried figs and nuances of tobacco and dark chocolate on the palate.

Production area: 
Egna / Mazzon, 300 - 400m a.s.l. 

Vinification: 
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, ageing and maturation for around 12 months in oak barriques (1/4 new), a further 8 months in large wooden barrels. After bottling in 2018, the wine was stored in our cellar until its release in 2024.

Food pairing: 
Veal medallions in red wine sauce, lamb crown with rosemary potatoes, game ragout with polenta.

Serving temperature: 
16 - 18°C. 

Ageing potential: 
more than 10 years.

The Gottardi family from Innsbruck had already made a name for themselves in the world of wine as dealers when, in 1986, they fulfilled a dream: with their own estate winery and grape growing areas in Alto Adige’s Pinot Noir heaven. Thus the Gottardi Estate Winery came into existence in Egna-Mazzon.But before the Gottardis were able to get the first bottle of their own wine onto the market, a great deal of work was necessary. All of the vineyards were replanted and set up with Guyot trellises. And the winery was also rebuilt. Only in 1995 was it possible to make the first wines, starting out with Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. “But because Pinot Noir enjoys great popularity both nationally and internationally, in 2010 we decided to devote ourselves exclusively to this unique grape variety,” says Alexander Gottardi.
