Description:
The Merlot-Cabernet Franc Frauenriegel by Peter Dipoli is an extraordinary and intense red wine, with a bouquet of red fruits and ripe berries. Tobacco and cedar wood aromas are responsible for the round flavor. On the palate it is charismatic and a little oily with a rigorous tannic texture.

Merlot - Cabernet Franc Frauenriegel - South Tyrol Alto Adige DOC.
Production area:
"Frauenriegel" is the cadastral name of a parcel on the east-facing slope between Termeno and Cortaccia at about 300 - 350 m a.sl., half of which is planted with Cabernet Franc and half with Merlot. It covers 0.3 hectares with extremely steep slopes and clayey and limestone soil.
Vinification:
Harvest time mid / late September. The simultaneous ripening of the two grape varieties allows them to be vinified together. The grapes are carefully destemmed and fermented in open vats. Fermentation time 10 days with two pigeage per day. Malolactic fermentation and ageing in almost new barriques for twelve months. Bottling after eight months of maturation in large wooden barrels. After 24 months of bottle aging, the wine is put on sale. Up to 2000 bottles are produced per year.
Food Pairing:
It is a great accompaniment to beef, lamb and game.

16 - 18°C.

more than 10 years.

I wanted to make wines that would reflect my ideas about which grape varieties to use, and about the most correct and respectful ways of turning them into wine. I believe that each grape variety should be planted in the environment that best suits it. The producer’s job is to transform the grapes – as naturally as they arrive from the vineyards – into wines that express the characteristics of soil, habitat and growing season these grapes are a fruit of.A respect for these factors precludes all predetermined styles of wine, too often produced following momentary fashions. I am happy when consumers understand a wine to be the result of specific growing conditions, with whatever natural variabilities these may entail. Only then they can appreciate a great wine as being a unique and true expression of a grape, its territory and its producer.
