Terlaner I Grande Cuvée 2017 Terlano Winery

Soil samples have been taken from the three sites of the Terlaner I Grande Cuvée and analyzed using modern methods. The tests revealed the presence of a subvolcanic body around Terlano, which differs in composition from the classic volcanic rock. Over millions of years, a Special crystal cuvée formed with a mineral content that is unusual for this type of rock: a unique feature of the Terlano terroir, Nature’s gift to the vines, which defy the meager soil by sending their roots deep down where they find the nutrition they need in the mineral treasures of the earth. A rich storehouse for the synthesis of the polyphenols, which are one of the explanations for the unique character of Terlano’s white wines and especially Terlaner I Grande Cuvée.
Yield: 35 hl per hectare.
Pressing: gentle whole cluster pressing. Clarification of the must: natural sedimentation. Fermentation and
slow fermantation in big oak casks (30 hl); malolactic fermentation and ageing on the lees for 12 months in big wooden barrels. Blending: composition of the Grand Cuvée in following March.
Color: brilliant straw yellow. Nose: rich and complex on the nose; multifaceted aromas of citrus fruit, white pepper and herbs as well as a delicate smoky note.
Taste: The wine’s elegance and perfect balance are the product of its remarkable structure and subtle texture, which give the wine its unmistakable character. It’s extremely long finish is more than pleasant; it leaves its mark in memory as the supreme expression of a mineral terroir that is unique in the world.

Terlano’s tradition as a wine terroir dates back over 2000 years. That vines thrive so well in the lee of Monzoccolo is due to the mild, almost Mediterranean climate with hot sunny days and cool nights during the ripening time. The striking red, easily warmed porphyry soil of Terlano also contributes to the high quality of the grapes. In the heart of this South Tyrolean wine region the Terlano winery was established in 1893. Today the co-operative has over 200 members and a total area of 240 hectares. 70% of the vineyard acreage is planted with white grapes. In modern cellars the fruits of this careful, natural cultivation are turned into wine with that perfect touch and the necessary controls.Because of the mineral content of the wines the region of Terlano is also frequently likened to French vine growing areas. The Terlano wine characteristics, the precise fruit, and the fine yet strong aroma lead experts to compare the wine with mature vintage Champagnes.
