St. Magdalener 2023 - 13,5% vol. Weingut Thurnhof
Description:
Deep ruby red color with purple shades. The nose is expressed in all its power with notes of plum, violet, cherry, mulberry, cocoa, coffee, leather, vanilla and spices in a combination that we can perceive in the palate too. The taste of fruit, tannins and balanced acidity makes the Pignolo a true, noble interpreter of red wines from Friuli.
It' s presence in Friuli is documented from a lot of centuries. His origin: the vineyards of the Rosazzo Abbey. Then was forgotten by history and by men ... because of its low yield and its sensitivity to the disease that made him a disadvantage to more resistant varieties. But then, thanks to the instructions of Walter Filiputti were found the last two plants, from which they create new plants in the 1978. And this great wine continue its journey. Specogna Winery
In 1963 Leonardo Specogna, after residing in Switzerland as an emigrant for some years (typical situation for the people of the Friuli region in those years), went back to Friuli Venezia Giulia and bought a small plot of land on the hills of Rocca Bernarda in Corno di Rosazzo, in the heart of the vineyards in Friuli. These lands have always been devoted to oenology and here the plant of the vine has found the best conditions since Roman times, thanks to the fact that in this oriental strip of land of our region the climate and the soil have features that are unique and exceptional for winemaking. That was the origin of it… It all started with a 360-degree company that covered many aspects of the production for private consumption: dairy, cereal and wine production. Later, when Graziano and his wife Anna Maria started working in the company, the management techniques of the vineyards and of the winemaking were improved, making the farm more specifically focused on the winemaking sector. Nowadays, the activity of the company is galvanised by the presence of the third generation of Specogna winemakers Cristian and Michele that long ago have taken the lead of the company. They are granting an important company development trend and an expansion of the sales into the most important international markets. Today our company has an overall surface of 25 hectares, 22 of which are vineyards. We produce more or less 120,000 bottles per year, 50% of which are sold on the national market and 50% in more than 30 countries in the world.
