Description:
Deep purple red colour in the glass. Invitingly open and multi-layered on the nose with notes of violet, chocolate, ripe damsons and spices. On the palate elegant with velvety structure, tightly knit tannins and hints of bitter almond. The iconic one. This Lagrein is the perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity. In Alto Adige it can be traced back to its origins over several centuries. It has always been at home here. This is a wine with pedigree and character: down to earth and open to the world.

Production area:
Bozen valley basin at 260 m a.s.l. with sandy alluvial soil and sundrenched southern exposure.
Vinification:
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel at 28°C for 8 days, afterwards maturation in large wooden casks to 30 - 50 hl for at least 6 months.
Food pairing:
Game dishes, grilled meat dishes or a juicy entrocote with herbed butter.
Serving temperature:
14 - 16°C.
Ageing potential:
more than 5 years.

Wine Estate Monastery Cellar Muri-Gries
In 1845 the Benedictines moved from Muri in Switzerland to Gries in South Tyrol, where the order took over the Augustinian monastery. In so doing, they inherited a long tradition of wine-growing, which they nurtured in the spirit of a symbiosis of monastery, winery and estate that is still very much in evidence today. The result, in the 21st century, is a range of top-quality wines from MURI-GRIES like the Abtei Muri line, which has been produced from selected grapes from the very best sites since 1989. The MURI-GRIES wine estate comprises 35 hectares of vineyards in excellent locations in and around Bolzano and Appiano. The monastery vineyards offer an outstanding terroir, combining excellent soils with a highly favourable climate.
