Description: Bright ruby red. The variety of aromas in this wine is due to the very old vines very diverse and reminiscent of aromas of almonds, marzipan, strawberries and in very good years, cherry and orange peel. Due to the slightly longer maturity in the vineyard Thomas Pichler, the wine has a harmonious, rounded finish with well-built tannins.
Grape variety: Schiava (Vernatsch) - Alto Adige Lago di Caldaro DOC
Production area: Caldaro field at 250 m above sea level.
Vinification: Mash fermentation in a stainless steel container for approx. 3 weeks followed by malolactic fermentation. The expansion takes place in stainless steel tank and a small part in small wooden barrels.
Matching: When eating, the Kalterersee is a very versatile companion, which can be served mainly to South Tyrolean bacon but also to fish dishes, pasta and all meat dishes.
Serving temperature: 12 - 14°C.
Ageing potential: more than 5 years.

Producer: Thomas Pichler Winery Thomas Pichler knows wine in all of its facets and, in fact, in greater detail than most others. And that is not just because he comes from a family of Caldaro winegrowers and therefore himself grew up with wine cultivation. Rather, it is because he has worked for nearly three decades in different wine laboratories. But since wine under laboratory conditions obviously was not sufficient for him, he also now produces wine himself – at the Thomas Pichler Estate Winery in Caldaro. Over half of the production is made up of Kalterersee and Lagrein, followed by Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
