Description

Description:
Brilliant straw yellow color in the glass. Rich and intense aroma, with notes of wildflowers and a hint of honey. Ample and dynamic taste, with a wealthy texture, with citrus scents accompanied by a savory finish. Riesling is, in particular, an austere and complex wine, with a profile of great elegance and a finish with vibrant mineral scents: in every glass of this wonderful Falkenstein wine, the echo of a border territory returns, able to create products with an unmistakable identity.

Grape variety:
Riesling - South Tyrol Alto Adige Val Venosta DOC

Production area:
Naturno - Vinschgauer Sonnenberg. The dry primary rock soil offers excellent conditions for the vines to thrive in a steep, south-facing position between 600 and 900 m above sea level.

Vinification:
Riesling is a late-maturing variety which develops its unmistakable aromas in the higher areas cultivated. The harvest tine is during the first half of October. After rigorously handpicking, the grapes are processed with great care and fermented in large acacia casks. Maturation takes place in the same acacia barrels for ten months in contact with the coarse yeast. After bottling, the Riesling remains in store for a further twelve months.

Food pairing:
This Riesling is an excellent aperitif wine. It is also recommended with white meat such as poultry, as well as with seafood and vegetable dishes.

Serving temperature:
10 - 12°C.

Ageing potential:
more than 5 years.

Bottle to:
750 ml - 75 cl - 0.75 lt.

Allergens:
Wine can contain sulphites.

Producer:
Falkenstein Winery
The Falkenstein farm winery & vineyard is to be found on the slopes of the Sonnenburg Mountain in Naturns. The story begins in 1989, when Franz and Bernadette Pratzner decided to abandon their apple orchards and dedicate themselves exclusively to viticulture. The impervious terrain of primary rock, exposed to the south, lends itself perfectly to the growing of vines. The grape vines extend over an area of twelve hectares at altitudes of between 590–900 m a.s.l., producing around 90,000 bottles per year. The vineyards are dedicated mostly to white grapes, with a small part for Pinot Noir. Among the varieties cultivated, Riesling is the most outstanding. Franz and Bernadette work mostly manually, with machinery employed only in a supportive capacity. Since 2003, all wine-making is carried out in the purposely-built wine cellar. The architect responsible absorbed into the design the family’s desire to create a harmony between the old and the new. For this reason a wine cellar in stone was built, joined to the more modern building, in which the white wines are today perfected.
