Description

Description: 
Bright golden yellow. Characterised by a floral perception of apple blossom, balanced by a light stone fruit aroma. Coupled with a pleasant herbal spiciness, it shows up in the retronasal with a refreshing scent reminiscent of nettle and lemon balm. On the palate, it has an exceptionally refreshing and pleasantly racy acidity, well balanced with the sugar. Wonderfully pronounced minerality with a subtle salty perception. Full-bodied on the finish and very long-lasting on the palate. An elegant wine full of character with seductive youthful traits. 

Grape variety: 
Pinot Grigio (Ruländer, Pinot Gris) - Alto Adige DOC. 

Production area: 
Kardaun at 330m above sea level, near Bolzano. Deep, sandy porphyry weathered soil. 

Vinification: 
Gentle whole cluster pressing, 8 hours of maceration, natural sedimentation and then temperature controlled fermentation for 2 days on the skins in stainless steel tanks. Batonnage until February with fine yeast storage until mid-March. 20% stored in French barrique barrels (second racking) for 4 months, 80% second/third racking) until the end of March. 

Matching: 
This wine combines perfectly with Asian cuisine, Mediterranean starters and various pasta dishes as well as savoury fish dishes, white meats and spicy cheese variations. 

Serving temperature: 
10 - 12°C.

Ageing potential: 
more than 5 years.

The brothers Markus and Thomas Puff are responsible for the wine production at the impressively 700 year-old Pitznerhof in Cardano at the entrance to the Valle Isarco. Their farmhouse lies at an elevation of precisely 350 meters, but the three hectares of grape growing areas are on steep slopes with deep, sandy weathered porphyry soils. “We attempt to integrate the local conditions and the microclimate into the production process in the best possible way". And in the winery, there is also the underlying principle of working with the grapes gently. Thus the overall picture comes together of production that is close to nature along the entire chain. “We try to fulfill our responsibility by stressing nature as little as possible".
