Passito white Aruna 2021 - 12% vol. Cortaccia Winery

Description: 
After painstaking cellar work, a meditation wine with distinctive regional characteristics, fruity brilliance and remarkable longevity is born. The spectacular aroma evokes mountain apricots, pears, lavender honey and ripe exotic fruit. Through a painstaking development on the lees, Aruna takes on structure and dense juiciness. Its fruity finish is accompanied by a bracing and vibrant interplay of acidity and sugar. 

Grape variety: 
30% Moscato Giallo (Harvest in early October, air dried), 70% Gewürztraminer (harvest in early December - late harvest) - South Tyrol IGT Mitterberg White 

Production area: 
Kurtatsch: sun-exposed hill site. Stony loam and loamy sand soil. The Aruna Passito, a white cuvée, is a prime example of the prevailing dynamic in Kurtatsch: Gewürztraminer is considered to be one of the most difficult grapevines in the vineyard, and Moscato Giallo only develops its delicate aroma on exceptional sites. Aruna unites these sophisticated wines at the highest level. The microclimate found in Kurtatsch, with alluvial land and lime-rich gravel, forms the basis for this premium dessert wine, in combination with intensive vineyard work.In addition, the high autumn mist from the Adige Valley favors noble rot on the berries. 

Vinification: 
Moscato giallo harvest at ideal ripeness, air dried in crates. Gewürztraminer harvest in December, followed by 20 hours of cold maceration of both varieties, gentle pressing. Fermentation and ageing for 12 months in old barriques.

Vineyards on breathtakingly steep slopes from 220-900m a.s.l. - such a large difference in altitude within one municipality is unique in Europe. The low elevations are among the warmest in Alto Adige and are perfect for important red wines. On the high-altitude sites above the main village of Kurtatsch, the white varieties find ideal conditions. The wide array of elevations and soil types dictates the philosophy of the province’s southernmost cooperative: to produce distinctive wines that reflect their growing site, their terroir, in the best way possible. 
A young team, since 2014 led by the winery’s president, Andreas Kofler, has oriented the winery towards sustainable management. Thanks to the 190 small-structured family farms that cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, the best grape material for each individual location can be selected. This and the precise vinification of the individual vineyard sites create distinctive and unmistakable wines which truly reflect their place of origin. The result: fresh, mineral white wines from high locations and long-lasting red wines from warm locations.
