Description:
The nose reveals elegance and great aromatic finesse. Fragrant aromas of ripe fruit, spicy and mineral notes, intense and persistent bouquet. Production area:
On the slopes of the Apennines sloping down to the Lucca plain, a splendid terrace facing south and south-east at an altitude of 250 metres, an alluvial area of sandstone on calcareous marl of Alberese dating back to the Palaeocene, some 60 million years ago, when mammals began to populate the earth. Sangiovese grapes have always been grown on these soils, along with other varieties of diverse origins: syrah, merlot, ciliegiolo, canaiolo, montepulciano, barbera, tazzelenghe and others.
Vinification:
Made from grapes from old vineyards, the grapes are selected on three sorting tables, destemmed and poured into small wooden vats, with the first pressing done with the feet, followed by remuage and infrequent pumping over. The wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, no more than a fifth of which are new. Decanting with compressed air or by gravity is very gentle and kept to a minimum. It is aged in the bottle for one year before being sold.
Food pairing:
Ideal with pasta with meat sauce, game, braised red meats, roasted and grilled meats and aged cheeses.

16 - 18°C.

Tenuta di Valgiano is a very beautiful estate in the hills of Lucca. Lucca is in the north of Tuscany, sandwiched between the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The climate is very different depending on whether the influence of the Apennines or the Mediterranean predominates. For this reason, historically, there is a strong presence of complementary grape varieties that guarantee consistent quality. Overall, Lucchesia is characterised by the mild climate, which is expressed in a landscape of great elegance, the most typical fruits of this landscape: oil and wine find optimal conditions here. The vineyards of the Tenuta di Valgiano cover about 20 hectares at an altitude of 250 metres on soils rich in sandstone deposits and limestone marls of the Alberese. Traditional techniques are used in the winery with minimal technological intervention.
