Bolgheri si trova sulla Costa degli Etruschi, tra le colline e il mare, in un paradiso naturale di struggente bellezza. Ed è a Bolgheri che Le Macchiole, dal 1983, coltiva le sue vigne. Un territorio letteralmente scoperto dal nulla, figlio di esperimenti visionari, un angolo di Toscana costiera, periferica e ignota, lontana dalla classica storia enologica della regione, ma che diventerà rapidamente un protagonista del vino toscano e italiano. Il carattere del terreno unito al clima asciutto e dolcemente ventilato, le temperature leggermente inferiori al resto della costa e la particolare luminosità della zona, contribuiscono alla definizione di un ambiente tipicamente mediterraneo, particolarmente vocato alla coltivazione di varietà come Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot e Syrah. Tra le uve bianche, ottimi risultati arrivano da Chardonnay e Sauvignon, Viognier e Vermentino.
