Description: Pinot Nero Filari di Mazzon A.A. Carlotto is a wine cultivated on the hills of Mazzon cradle in Alto Adige, at the foot of the "Monte Corno" nature park. The N-S orientation of the rows of vines and the clayey nature of the soil are an excellent prerequisite for the production of a savoury, round, pleasantly tannic and finely fruity Pinot Noir with notes of raspberry and cassis.
Grape varierty: Pinot Noir - Alto Adige DOC
Production area: Mazzon di Egna at 330m above sea level, south - west facing on clay soil. Limestone soil of fluvio-glacial origin, rich in skeleton with an average clay content of 15%.
Vinification: After harvesting, the grapes are crushed and destemmed. The maceration process takes place over a period of approx. ten days, during which time the grapes are pumped over and punched down daily. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques of first and second passage and in large casks, where the wine then matures and refines for 12 months. The wine remains to mature for a few months in the cellar before being marketed.

Producer: Carlotto Winery The Carlotto family has been working enthusiastically in viticulture for three generations. Umberto Carlotto started in 1940 as a tenant (sharecropper) in the Schlosshof estate at the ruins of Caldiff in Mazzon, where he worked the vineyards for 50 years together with his brother and later also with his son Ferruccio. In 2000 Ferruccio and his daughter Michela started their own business. Since then they have been working the grapes from their own vineyards, faithful to good traditional methods - both in the field and in the cellar - with the aim of rediscovering the characteristics of the vine and the terroir of the wine.
