Description:
Deep cherry red colour, bright and very intense. Intense and complex on the nose. Notes of black fruits balanced by eucalyptus and spices such as black pepper. On the palate, this rare wine offers a powerful structure with silky tannins that reflect the perfect ripeness of the grapes. The finish is long and complex with flavours of blackberries, spices, pepper and tobacco.
Alka (the name of the French mascot "rooster" in the Mapuche language) is the result of research into the merits of Carménère. With this wine, François has proven that Carménère can make a complex, fine wine on its own, without blending.

Production area:
Colchagua Valley, Chile. Colluvial soils, granite, clay.
Vinification:
Manual harvest in crates in the early morning, followed by a double selection of grapes. The grapes are stored in a cold room at 5°C to lower their temperature before being transported to the winery. First cold maceration at 8 - 12°C for 8 days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in vats. Long maceration of about 1 month to give complexity and structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels where the wine ages on its lees for 3 months.

Beef, pasta dishes, lamb, poultry and medium aged cheeses.
Serving temperature:
16 - 18°C.
Ageing potential:
more than 10 years.
