Description:
Brenntal is an elegant, structured cuvée made from Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes grown on the warm, well-exposed soils of the Alto Adige DOC area. It has an intense ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose offers a refined and complex bouquet: blackcurrants, blackberries and cherries combine with balsamic notes, a touch of pepper, graphite and a hint of sweet tobacco. Barrique ageing enriches the palate with toasted and spicy nuances, without overpowering the purity of the fruit.
Grape variety:
Cabernet Franc and Merlot - South Tyrol Alto Adige DOC.
Production area:
The Brenntal vineyard is a large historic vineyard located below the Wine Route in the municipality of Cortaccia. As its name suggests, it is one of the warmest vineyards in South Tyrol, where Bordeaux grape varieties thrive particularly well.
Vinification:
Simultaneous harvest, fermentation in open vats for about 12 days with two pigeages per day. Acidity degradation and ageing for twelve months in barriques, using almost exclusively new wood. Bottling after seven months of maturation in concrete vats. The wine is marketed after 28 months of ageing in the bottle.
Food Pairing:
This wine is recommended with red meat, savoury appetisers and blue cheeses.
Serving temperature:
16 - 18°C.
Ageing potential:
more than 10 years.
Bottle to:
750 ml - 75 cl - 0.75 lt.
Allergens:
Wine can contain suphites.

Some years ago I put my lifelong passion for wine into practice by becoming a wine producer. I wanted to make wines that would reflect my ideas about which grape varieties to use, and about the most correct and respectful ways of turning them into wine. I believe that each grape variety should be planted in the environment that best suits it. The producer’s job is to transform the grapes – as naturally as they arrive from the vineyards – into wines that express the characteristics of soil, habitat and growing season these grapes are a fruit of.A respect for these factors precludes all predetermined styles of wine, too often produced following momentary fashions. I am happy when consumers understand a wine to be the result of specific growing conditions, with whatever natural variabilities these may entail. Only then they can appreciate a great wine as being a unique and true expression of a grape, its territory and its producer.
