Rowan: In late summer, everywhere you look in South Tyrol are the bright splashes of red berries. These are known in local dialect as “bird-berry” or “mountain-ash”. The distillation of this fruit is part of a long tradition, especially in the Tyrolean region, but this distillation in particular allows no room for error in the selection and preparation of the berries, which are to be mashed. The labor required in the harvest and hulling of these small fruits is immeasurable. Even the small stems are manually removed from thousands of berries to prevent any hint of “green” tastes from ruining the distillate. Moreover, these flavorful fruits grow at high altitudes on meagerly soil. In South Tyrol, rowan harvested in the area of Sarentino and Spitzbühl on Alpe di Siusi are legendary. Here, at 2000 meters above sea level, the berries for Zu Plun’s rowan brandy grow. Stylistics: In addition to the characteristic taste of wild fruits, with a hint of nuts and cinnamon, and a kind of Christmassy hint of spice, the rowan brandy will also surprise you with a taste of almond or marzipan flavoring. In the end, the brandy is nevertheless velvety smooth and finely spiced without comparison.

Farm Distillery zu Plun
Florian Rabanser is a distillation master who lives at the foot of the Dolomites. His spirits, especially the Gin, encapsulates his passion for genuine flavors.
«I decided to devote myself to something that allowed me to spend more time with my family. So I bought this Alpine farmstead, renovated it and 15 years ago I established the distillery. When i was working as a cook, my task was trying to reach a balance between all the different ingredients. And I still do something similar in my new job, so my past and my present have a lot in common, indeed. The “mental taste” of a cook has been very useful to me. Zu Plun is a very locally rooted company, and its products perfectly display it. Rhum and Gin are corked up, only if I am 100% sure of them. I don’t like trite products; they do not express my being. In other words, it is exactly like my handshake: strong and vigorous!.
