Die Lage Felseneck in Bockenau ist nach Süden ausgerichtet und oberhalb vom Wald beschützt, im Boden finden wir sogenannte Waderner Schichten, hauptsächlich Konglomerate aus blauem Devonschiefer, basaltischem Geröll und weißgrauem Quartzit. Diese besondere Mineralformation verleiht den Weinen ihre typische, vielschichtige Mineralität.

The Schäfer-Fröhlich family has been cultivating wine for over 200 years. However, at that time, wine was not yet at the level of what it is today. The highly successful efforts to achieve the highest quality began in the 1970s: 2.5 hectares of vineyards became 11.5 hectares, 80% of which were planted with Riesling grapes. The rest is Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The vines dig their roots into the various rocky soils of the best parts of the important vineyards such as Bockenauer Felseneck, Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg, Kupfergrube, Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen and Halenberg. The Bockenauer Felseneck is the main vineyard of the Schäfer-Fröhlichs, who own 6 hectares here. The best vineyards, the diversity of the soils, natural, quality-oriented viticulture with low yields and harvesting the grapes at full maturity, which are then gently vinified, are the simple 'recipe' for Schäfer-Fröhlich wines, which is, however, so rarely achieved in this consistency. It takes patience and trust in natural processes, the ability to take a step backwards with the aim of rediscovering the identity of terroir in wine. Karin and Hans Fröhlich, who now run the winery with their children Tim and Meike, have succeeded. The result is complex wines, an elegant and lively symbiosis of pure fruit and minerality typical of the terroir. In 2001, the Schäfer-Fröhlich winery was accepted into the association of German Prädikat wineries (VDP).
