Elio went to Burgundy with friends in 1976 to learn more about wine production outside Piedmont. As he wanted to share the successes that were starting for the region, he then began experimenting with various methods and worked on the estate with his father Giovanni. At 26 Elio takes over the business and takes a new direction. New cellar technology, rigor in the vineyard, grape varieties to emphasize the qualities of the territory and to produce wines of great elegance, finesse and balance. The Elio Altare winery is a family business. 12 hectares of vineyards are cultivated, 5 of which are rented out. Approximately 60,000 bottles are produced each year. Elio has 2 daughters. The eldest daughter Silvia will follow in his footsteps, while Elena lives in Germany, where she imports her own wine. In the basement, Elio is supported by Tes Cyo. The Japanese cellarman is a great talent and a great expert. The cellar's cult wines are Langhe Larigi (100% Barbera), Barolo Arborina and Barolo Brunate.
