Clemens Busch Estate - Kirchstrasse 37 - 56862 Pünderich - Germany
Clemens Busch took over the management of the family business in 1986, although he has always worked alongside his father in the vineyard. Clemens firmly believes in natural methods combined with traditional practices that best respect nature and give the wines maximum territorial expression. His role model is Pierre Masson, one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Burgundy. The vineyards are cultivated biodynamically, which is a rarity in the Moselle because of the steep slopes and the amount of work required. Clemens Busch is certified by "Respekt biodyn" and is a member of "Renaissance Des Appellations", an association of winegrowers with a similar philosophy of natural cultivation and winemaking. Located in the heart of the Moselle, the winery owns 16 of the 25 hectares of the famous "Marienburg" vineyard (80 hectares in total, of which only 25 hectares are on a slope) in the commune of Pünderich, where the winery is located. This vineyard, from which Clemens obtains most of its production, is considered one of the most beautiful sites on the Moselle: it faces completely south, lies directly on the Moselle on the right bank and has a steep slope that makes mechanical cultivation absolutely impossible. Over the course of time, Clemens has acquired a monopoly on several plots of this beautiful vineyard, located on different soils and with different microclimates. Clemens uses three-coloured capsules on the bottles to indicate the three different types of slate found in the Marienburg vineyard (grey, red and blue). The vineyards are at least 40 years old and Riesling accounts for 99% of the production. The cuvées produced are identified by the names of the plots: Fahrlay, Falkenlay, Rothenpfad and Felsterrasse. 80% of the wines are vinified in very old 10-hectolitre barrels, the youngest of which is 48 years old. Today, the company passes into the hands of his son Johannes.
