Ghiaccio Forte Winery
The vineyards of Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte are located on the slopes of Monte Aquilaia, along the banks of the Albegna river, in the southern area of Scansano. There are two types of terrain: mainly Pliocene gravel on the slopes and silty red earth in the valley, near the river. The vineyards were planted at two different times. Initially, between 1999 and 2001, local clones of Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Syrah with a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon and later in 2006 new clones of Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Currently the estate includes almost 20 hectares of vines of which about 12 in Morellino di Scansano, near the remains of the fortified Etruscan city Ghiaccio Forte, from which the winery takes its name. From 2020 the vineyards are organically grown.
