Description:
Very intense ruby red colour with purple highlights. Austere and highly developed bouquet, with intense hints of very ripe black berry fruit, leather and spices. Taste of great power, vitality and concentration. Warm, very well balanced and harmonious, rich in sweet tannins, which make it particularly elegant and round. Silky and very persistent in the finish.

Production area:
Poggio Antico is an estate that groups all the vineyards into a single property, in one of the highest points of the Montalcino appellation and extends over 200 hectares, 33 of which are vineyards. The estate is caressed by constant breezes and the vineyards are predominantly south-facing, at an average altitude of 480 metres above sea level. The unique climate and privileged position allow the cultivation of magnificent Sangiovese grapes, which they vinify and age with care and passion to create an exceptional selection of Brunello wines.
Vinification:
In stainless steel vats, truncated cone-shaped, with a nominal capacity of 80 hectolitres, thermo-conditioned. The fermentation temperature never exceeds 32°C. Fermentation lasted 16 days. Thanks to the technical characteristics of these particular vats, which among other things have a completely removable lid, punching-down is carried out rather than pumping-over, in order to avoid the use of pumps. This allows a more delicate and effective extraction from the skins.
Maturation for a total of 48 months, 36 of which in traditional Slavonian oak casks with a capacity of 37-55 hl; of which at least 12 months in the bottle.

White and red meats, first courses with sauce, game birds, game, hard cheeses.

At an average elevation of 480 metres above sea level, Poggio Antico’s vineyards are among the highest in the Brunello region. The lofty altitude, combined with the close proximity of the Tyrrhenian Sea, ensures that there is always a steady breeze – which has a beneficial effect etheir in dry or rainy seasons. Thanks to this unique and blessed spot, Poggio Antico wines are characterised by their elegance.
The soil is rocky and calcerous, which makes for good drainage. Cover crops are used to aid moisture retention, increase biodiversity and regenerate the soil.
