Description

Description:
Rich, bright ruby red. Fruity nose, reminiscent of ripe cherries, ripe plums, earthy, truffle and wax, slightly resinous, very independent and mysterious. Juicy and tannic on the palate, expands sharply and earthily on the tongue, lively, very mineral and emphatic on the finish.

Grape variety:
Sangiovese 60%, Syrah 20%, Merlot 20% - Colline Lucchesi DOC.

Production area:
On the slopes of the Apennines dropping down to the Lucca plain, a splendid south and south-east facing terrace at 250 metres above sea level. An alluvial soil of sandstone on calcareous marl of Alberese from the Paleocene, about 60 million years ago, when mammals began to populate the earth. Sangiovese grapes have always been grown on these soils, along with other varieties of diverse origins: syrah, merlot, ciliegiolo, canaiolo, montepulciano, barbera, tazzelenghe and others.

Vinification:
The grapes are pressed by hand or "with the feet" in the gentlest way possible, accompanied by gentle pressing down and sometimes pumping over. 10 - 15 days of maceration are sufficient under these conditions to fully develop the aromas and the tannins. After a short and natural sedimentation, the resulting wine is put into lightly toasted French oak barriques where it completes the malolactic fermentation. The decanting is done with the help of compressed air without pumps to follow the natural rhythms. After 12 months of barrel ageing, the wine is transferred to cement tanks where it remains for a further 6 months until bottling. No clarification, no filtration at bottling.

Food pairing:
Pairs well with poultry, game dishes, terrines, mature cheeses.

Serving temperature:
16 - 18°C.

Ageing potential:
more than 8 years.

Bottle size:
750 ml - 75 cl - 0,75 lt.

Allergens:
wine can contain sulphites.

Tenuta di Valgiano
Tenuta di Valgiano is a very beautiful estate in the hills of Lucca. Lucca is in the north of Tuscany, sandwiched between the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The climate is very different depending on whether the influence of the Apennines or the Mediterranean predominates. For this reason, historically, there is a strong presence of complementary grape varieties that guarantee consistent quality. Overall, Lucchesia is characterised by the mild climate, which is expressed in a landscape of great elegance, the most typical fruits of this landscape: oil and wine find optimal conditions here. The vineyards of the Tenuta di Valgiano cover about 20 hectares at an altitude of 250 metres on soils rich in sandstone deposits and limestone marls of the Alberese. Traditional techniques are used in the winery with minimal technological intervention.
